All pets brought to the Tucker County Animal Shelter (TCAS) by Animal Control are held for a 5-day period where they will be vaccinated and dewormed upon intake and then adequately housed, fed, and cared for. After the 5-day hold, they become the property of TCAS and will receive further veterinary care (spay/neuter, microchip, rabies vaccination, etc.), then moved to the adoption floor.
To reclaim a lost pet, we require the following:
1) A current picture of the pet and/or veterinary records. You must be able to provide some proof of ownership either by a visual identification method or by a description which accompanies a legal document. Other proof-of-ownership methods may be approved on a case by case basis.
2) Valid Driver’s license or Valid photo ID of the owner. Should the owner be unable to reclaim their pet in person, they can elect an authorized individual to whom he/she has given permission to reclaim the pet in their absence. The authorized individual MUST be at least 18 years of age and have a signed letter from the owner authorizing them to reclaim the pet. The authorized individual must also be prepared to show their ID.
3) Proof of rabies vaccination. We require an UP TO DATE rabies certificate provided to you by a veterinarian (we will accept an emailed copy from your veterinarian). Alternatively, you may prepay for a rabies vaccine from your veterinarian and bring proof of purchase. NO cats or dogs will be released from our shelter without proof of rabies.
4) Payment of reclaim fees. Pets may be reclaimed during normal business hours, 8 AM-1 PM Monday-Friday and Saturday/Sunday by appointment. We accept cash or check as payment for the reclaim fees.
